Meet Laura | Mummy & Business Owner

After undertaking a number of jobs but never being fulfilled or passionate about any of them, I decided to create Mindful Bakes in 2017.

I started out doing cake commissions then it evolved into becoming a cookery school! My passion lies in teaching, being surrounded by children and being creative so teaching cookery seemed like the perfect answer.

For centuries, food can bring people together, act as a talking point when you struggle to find words and be a kind gesture or celebration.

Why Mindful Bakes?

I put emphasis on working with young adults and children that have additional needs, those with specific disorders, behavioural difficulties or lacking confidence and self-esteem. Many of my clients come to me as a safe space, where they can fully immerse themselves in the baking, whilst being able to chat about anything – it is a therapeutic experience.

I love having children in my home and mixing this with my family life and having a busy environment. I am a trained Occupational Therapist and qualified in working with people who have disabilities, I have experience in this field since I was 21.

I started Mindful Bakes when I was personally suffering with mental health issues and found it to be a great platform to help others. I want to be a positive role model to children and adults alike, providing empathy to those with additional needs and support their families.

The Kitchen

Firstly, don’t worry – you wont be using any daunting or posh equipment. On the contrary, you’ll be using the kind of gear that you probably have in your own kitchen – that way, once you get home, you’ll easily be able to recreate all of the recipes that you have learned with us.

Hands-on Cooking

It’s totally hands-on and, with a couple of inspirational demos from our Laura, you’ll feel completely satisfied with what you’ve achieved in your lesson. By the end of the session you’ll be brimming with new-found kitchen skills and cooking confidence!

My Values

I truly care about the quality of my bakes and take pride in sourcing local ingredients that contribute to our recipes. I aim to give your children the best cookery experience, where they can fully immerse themselves in the benefits of baking.

Five Key Ingredients at Mindful Bakes:

1. We are relaxed and welcoming: there are no silly questions here

2. We are totally hands-on: it’s the best way to learn

3. No washing-up: just cook, learn and eat (although wash-up if you want to!)

4. Flexible sessions: private lessons, After School Club, we can come to you

5. Suitable for everyone: we have the perfect menu for whatever your skill
